Retail Rescue: A Community Partnership That Feeds Families
“Managed through Food Rescue Organizations and the Upper Merion Area Community Cupboard (UMACC)”
Who We Are
The Upper Merion Area Community Cupboard (UMACC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2018 through a collaboration among local schools, government, community organizations, and clergy.
Our mission is simple yet vital: to ensure that no family within the Upper Merion Area School District—including Upper Merion Township, Bridgeport Borough, and West Conshohocken Borough—goes hungry.
Each month, UMACC supports hundreds of local households through dignified, grocery-style shopping, giving families the ability to choose the foods that best meet their needs. Beyond groceries, we also provide personal care items, seasonal resources, and community connections to help neighbors thrive.
What Is Retail Rescue?
Retail Rescue connects local businesses with UMACC through Food Rescue organizations and/or directly with UMACC to donate surplus food rather than letting it go to waste.
Our trained volunteers safely pick up donations and transport them directly to the pantry, where the food is distributed to families within days.
Typical donations include:
Fresh produce and baked goods
Frozen or refrigerated foods (meat, dairy, prepared meals)
Shelf-stable pantry staples
Beverages and snacks
UMACC’s main Food Rescue partners include Philabundance, Food Connect, and Philly Food Rescue, who serve as some of our primary points of contact for coordinating and facilitating donations from area retailers and restaurants.
